      1.What is birth defects?

The birth defects are defects that have been present since birth. Some diseases appear early at birth and some appear in childhood or adolescence. Some of the birth defects are as follows:

  2. Heart disorders such as atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, tetralogy of float

  3. Down syndrome

  4. Sickle cell anemia

  5. Club feet

  6. Spina bifida

 2.Reasons for birth defects:

There are several possible causes of birth defects.

  1. Genetic factors

  2. Environmental factors (use of chemicals, alcohol and tobacco during pregnancy)

  3. Lack of nutrition in pregnancy

  4. Infection in the mother

     3.Symptoms of birth defects:

  1. Cleft Lips.

This defect is seen in the upper lip or palate. It is difficult to talk to it.

   4. Diagnosis and treatment.

Only when the baby is in the mother’s womb can a birth defect be diagnosed. Certain tests and techniques have made this process possible. They are:

  1. Aminosynthesis

  2. Fetal samples of the outer membrane of the fetus

  3. Ultrasound

  4. Fetal markers in maternal blood.

The treatment of psoriasis depends mainly on the specific disorder. Most birth defects are treated through surgery.

Doctors say that due to birth defects, sometimes the sex of the baby is not clear but this defect can be eliminated.

In our daily life we can see different examples of birth defects people one example is eunuch or Hijra.

   10. A story about eunuchs or Hijra at Pakistan.

Imran’s elder sister Naheed, 10, has also gone through this stage and is now living like a healthy girl. Both the children had come with their father and mother to attend a seminar at the Children’s Library Lahore under the auspices of the Birth Defect Foundation. Nadir Khan, the father of these children, is a very young man. He said that he has five children. The eldest three children were normal but when Naheed was born, her gender was not clear. At that time, the doctor advised us to check her up. We checked her up at the Children’s Hospital in Lahore, various tests were done, two weeks later the doctors said she was a girl, she had an operation a few weeks later and today, God willing, her daughter is 10 years old and perfectly healthy. And is healthy.

He said that after the birth of Naheed, when she had her fifth child, her sex was also not clear. I also tested her. The doctors advised me not to operate on her, but if she grows a little, her sex will become clear. He named the child Imran. The answer is seven years old. All his movements and speech are like those of a boy. But the doctor says that his internal organs are like those of a girl. Now the symptoms of a boy are appearing. The operation has been decided. In a few weeks, it will be clear whether Imran will be a boy or a girl.

Nadir Khan said that he had to listen to people’s taunts and talk because of his children. His eyes got wet while saying this. Nadir Khan said in a choked voice that he did not allow others to say anything about his children but when he spoke on his own. Nadir Khan’s daughter Naheed said that she wants to become an educated soldier because she likes soldiers while Imran wants to become a doctor.

In this ceremony we also met 14 year old Shehzad, Shehzad is a resident of Bahawalpur, this child lived like a girl for 13 years, attended school for girls while his name was also Shehzadi. One year ago, he started having abdominal pains. At that time, various tests were done and it was revealed that Shehzadi was not a girl but a boy and then he was operated on and made a boy. There is a hint of girls in his speech and demeanor, but in a couple of years he will be a complete boy.

According to doctors, due to birth defects, sometimes the sex of the child is not clear, the parents do not tell anyone due to the traditional shame and revelation, and as the child grows older, both the characteristics of the boy and the girl increase. Such children then become eunuchs.

The chairman of an NGO treating birth defects says such parents are cruel to themselves and their children. He said that at present, according to unconfirmed statistics, the number of eunuchs in Pakistan is said to be 500,000, but in reality the actual number is much higher and it is gradually increasing.

He also said that we need to differentiate between transgender and people with congenital sexual dysfunction. Transgender people are those whose gender is clear but they take the form of the opposite sex but children with birth defects are eunuchs who can be treated.
