Arshad Sharif’s father, Commander Muhammad Sharif, died of a heart attack at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in May 2011. His younger brother, Major Ashraf Sharif, was killed in May 2011 while on his way to attend his father’s funeral. On hearing the news of the death of his father, Major Ashraf Sharif, Bannu left the cantonment and refused a driver or escort. A few kilometers away, his car veered off the road and hit a tree, killing him on the spot. Commander Mohammad Sharif and Arshad Sharif’s younger brother Major Ashraf Sharif were laid to rest in H-11 graveyard with full military honours.

In 2018, Arshad Sharif won the Current Affairs Anchor of the Year award.

Arshad Sharif started his program Powerplay on ARY News in 2014 and this program proved to be a huge success. Instead of debating, the program focused on giving new information to the viewers. After this program, the government had to review the privatization of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Arshad Sharif pointed out that the motorway project is going to Saifur Rehman of Accountability Commission. He disclosed the document signed by Saifur Rehman and the chairman of the National Highway Authority in China to the Chinese investment company.

Arshad Sharif spearheaded the most controversial privatization in Pakistan’s history, Muslim Commercial Bank (MCB). Arshad Sharif unearthed the long-lost National Accountability Bureau (NAB) report on the privatization of MCB, which revealed how Nawaz Sharif handed over the bank to Mian Mansha for petty favours. He also drew attention to the illegal purchase of St. James Hotel in London by Nishat Group.

Powerplay is perhaps the only Pakistani news channel program that started raising questions on the Sharif family’s foreign assets even before the Panama Papers. Later, the Powerplay team sent queries to the Prime Minister’s Media Cell regarding their offshore companies, which are yet to be answered. Arshad Sharif, through his program Powerplay, brought Ishaq Dar’s affidavit, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Panama Leaks inquiry and most of the documents and investigations related to offshore companies, which were later revealed by Nawaz Sharif. had admitted. The investigative work of the Arshad Sharif family and their program team at Powerplay was said to be of profound importance in the decisions disqualifying Nawaz Sharif as prime minister. Many of the Joint Investigation Team’s findings were based on leads and investigations into the Nawaz Sharif family that were previously shown on the program Powerplay.

Arshad Sharif has given viewers a new taste where he does TV programs with documents, putting them on screen to show the audience accurate information, evidence of corruption and shady deals. This is a new style of journalism which has never happened before in Pakistan. Most of their information comes from sources without mentioning the actual documents on which they base their story.
